connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support


RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

Parenting After Separation Seminar Program


A parenting program to inform parents about the impacts of separation, and associated conflict, on children.

What is the Parenting After Separation Seminar Program?

The Parenting After Separation Seminar (PASS) program provides parents with key information and strategies to assist children to successfully adjust to separation and/or associated conflict.

The content is divided into three core sections and optional electives.

1. Self-care

Areas covered include:

  • dealing with loss
  • practical self-care for busy parents
  • diet and exercise
  • dealing with drug/alcohol challenges
  • emotional and spiritual resources and mindfulness
  • the rebound relationship
  • self-care resources and referrals.

2. Co-parenting

Areas covered include:

  • co-parenting goals
  • dealing with difficult communication
  • Brief, Informative, Firm and Friendly messages
  • business type relationships
  • “when all else fails”
  • co-parenting tips from experienced mediators and researchers.

3. Being attentive to children’s needs

Areas covered include:

  • understanding the needs of children
  • managing difficult behaviours and emotions
  • different parenting styles
  • impacts of separation on children’s behaviour
  • an interview with two, experienced child consultants.

Electives

This section offers additional, recommended content on communication, conflict management, and family therapy.


How is the program delivered?

Individual assessment (All participants)

Before starting the program, participants will complete a brief assessment with a facilitator, to ensure that the program is suitable for their circumstances.

Online learning (All participants)

The online self-paced learning typically takes eight to nine hours to complete. It includes presentations, interviews, quizzes, reflection exercises and other learning modes designed
to support parents to co-parent more effectively.

Participants will have access to the online content for 12 months and will also receive a workbook that will guide them through the program.

Group discussion (Compulsory for court-ordered clients, optional for others)

To meet requirements for Court Orders, parents must:

  • complete the online learning detailed above, and
  • contact the Melbourne Family Relationship Centre to register for a two-hour, small group discussion, facilitated online via Zoom video-conferencing. This will require another brief assessment prior to attending the discussion.

Following this, parents will receive a certificate which fulfils the requirements for Court Orders.

Those who are not Court-ordered are very welcome to participate in the group discussion.


How much does it cost?

Court-ordered certificate, incorporating online learning, workbook, group discussion and certificate
$150 (or $100 for health care card holders).

Online learning and workbook only
$100 (or $50 for health care card holders).
