Note: This Centre offers counselling through CatholicCare, formerly Centacare Catholic Family Services.

Multicultural programs

Sunshine FRC regularly conducts information sessions about our services with multicultural community groups.
We have worked to develop strong ties within the African community in the past year, regularly attending African community events. We have begun similar efforts with the Vietnamese community, with the re-establishment of the Vietnamese Reference Group.

Current programs

Money Management
In partnership with the Latino American Women’s Association in Victoria, we run a seminar on money management to enable participants to take control of their finances by giving them the basic tools to become debt-free, financially independent and secure.

Lawyers and Mediators Forum
This forum is designed to stimulate and encourage discussion on how Sunshine FRC can work with lawyers in the West and foster beneficial connections for effectively and proactively serving mutual clients.

Supporting Grandparents
Information sessions  especially for grandparents are available, addressing needs relating to their grandchildren

Journeys of Separation (Parenting Children)
These information sessions are designed to assist separating parents navigate the challenges of separation while prioritising the needs of their children.

Journey Sessions
In partnership with the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, we conduct information sessions specifically for women about to be released from prison, who are beginning the reunification process with their children.

In partnership with the Latino American Women’s Association in Victoria, assistance is provided on the following topics:

• Changing a will when sick or elderly

Sunshine FRC Reference Group
The Sunshine FRC held the first FRC Reference Group meeting, comprising of key community stakeholders whose work directly and indirectly relates to and/or impacts on that of the FRC. The group’s purpose was to identify issues of common concern and service improvements

Harmony Day 'Everyone Belongs'
To celebrate Harmony Day, the centre opened its doors to the local multicultural community, hosting a shared lunch and activities.

Vietnamese Advisory Group Meeting
Centre staff met with the Vietnamese community sector workers and community members as part of its aim to deliver services relevant to the Vietnamese Community in the West.

Strengthening Relationships for Intact and Separated Spanish-Speaking Families
In partnership with the Latino American Women’s Association in Victoria, the centre held a series of seminars over three weeks entitled “Strengthening Relationships for Intact and Separated Spanish-Speaking Families”.
Participants learned how to:
• Improve their relationships
• Reduce conflict
• Communicate effectively
• Support their children
• Help children cope with the separation.

Parenting – A Shared Approach
Sunshine FRC has delivered an interactive series of education and information sessions titled “Parenting - a Shared Approach” to the Vietnamese community.
