Multicultural programs
The Sunshine Centre is situated within a diverse cultural community and has a number of multicultural clients who attend counselling, Family Dispute Resolution, family violence and group programs. Interpreters are used frequently in our work at Sunshine.
The centre works collaboratively with local service providers and values its strong partnerships particularly with Intouch, Legal Services Board, Neighbourhood Justice Centre, Uniting Care Kildonan, Australian Vietnamese Women’s Association, Foundation House and Community Health Centres.
Current programs
Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBC)
The Sunshine Centre runs a successful Men’s Behaviour Change program, which actively works with men from diverse backgrounds.
The centre also runs a comprehensive family violence program which includes a strong referral base, assessment and open entry group. The program consists of a 14 week MBC and an ongoing mentor group upon completion. Partner contact is offered. It is subcontracted from Women’s Health West, to allow for continuity for the women when they require more intensive women’s support services. ‘Opening the Doors Women’s Group’ is offered to the women who are partners of the men and to other women who have experienced violence and abuse.
Vietnamese Men’s Family Violence Group
In collaboration with the NorthWest Men’s integrated partnership, the centre delivers a series of sessions to assist men in discovering new strategies of coping and strengthening their relationships.
Past programs
Vietnamese MBC Program
In 2010, the centre ran a specific Vietnamese speaking Men’s Behaviour Change program in Footscray in collaboration with several other organisations. The centre provided support as part of a reference group, mentoring of Vietnamese facilitators, venue and funding.
Father’s Day Celebration 2010
The centre proudly supported the ‘Father’s Day Celebration’ in Sunshine in partnership with local government and other community organisations.
