Multicultural programs

Berwick FRC works in collaboration with a number of local service providers across the south eastern metropolitan region to develop and deliver culturally-appropriate services. We specifically work with the Springvale Community Aid & Advice Bureau, the Migrant Resource Centre and the Afghan Centre for Victoria to develop community engagement projects for the Sudanese and Afghan communities in the region.

Past programs

Building a Strong Family
In partnership with the Springvale Community Aid & Advice Bureau, the centre conducted a forum for African women negotiating family relationships.

Harmony Day Festival 2011
In partnership with the Dandenong & District Aborigines Cooperative, government and community organisations, the centre hosted the ‘Everyone Belongs Festival’ on Sunday 20 March 2011. The festival brought together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate and learn about each other’s cultures.

Helping Families in Your Community
Berwick FRC hosted a Sudanese community referral group meeting. Topics discussed included:
• Berwick FRC services and support for families
• How Sudanese families access support
• Victims of violent crime
• Housing support programs to community members.

Sudanese Elders Forum
The centre hosted information sessions for leaders and elders in the local community to identify and discuss issues of concern to Sudanese families in the region.


 

                     

The Centre is managed by a consortium involving Relationships Australia (Victoria) as the lead, and Windermere Child and Family Services as partner.
